Antique 19th Century European Cast Brass Apothecary Mortar and Pestle, Size No. 3
This antique apothecary brass mortar and pestle set is a stunning piece of 19th-century pharmaceutical history. The compounding tool features matching, historically significant hand-struck "3" size indicators stamped into both the lathed underside of the base and the shaft of the pestle. This matching notation confirms the set has remained paired since its initial 1800s foundry production, built with a pestle head engineered specifically to fit the internal radius of the flared bell-shaped basin. The mortar features traditional pierced geometric side handles for structural stability during fine powder compounding.
