Antique 1910s Chinese Export Cobalt Blue Glazed Ceramic Guardian Lions, Pair
Hand-molded from substantial buff stoneware clay, each dog is mounted on a pedestal base to emulate traditional architectural ridge wardens. The figures are enveloped in a deep, high-fired cobalt blue glaze that exhibits strong textural contrast within the chiseled mane curls and bared-teeth muzzles.
The unglazed underside features a historically significant, hand-incised "CHINA" origin mark, definitively anchoring its production to the post-1890 Republic trade period. Preserved in its estate condition, the pair displays age-appropriate glaze flaking and imperfections standard for pieces from this time.
