Antique Chinese Export Gilt Metal and Enamel Dragon Trinket Box

This antique Chinese export gilt metal trinket box is a piece of early 20th-century luxury trade craft. The interior provides proof of the structural assembly and age of this piece: the underside of the lid reveals a traditional counter-enamel technique, where a dark forest-green vitreous glaze was intentionally applied to the interior reverse face to stabilize the hand-hammered metal core.
