Vintage Italian "Old World" Desktop Globe on Pedestal

A charming mid-century (c. 1960s - 1970s) example of traditional Italian library decor, manufactured in Rimini, Italy.
The text on the wooden semi-meridian arc adds excellent academic charm. It divides the earth into traditional Latin climate zones used by ancient and Renaissance geographers:

"ZONA TORRIDA" (The Torrid Zone): The equator region, historically believed by early Europeans to be too hot and scorched for human survival.

"ZONA TEMP. SETT." (Northern Temperate Zone): The moderate habitable zone of Europe and North America.

"ZONA FREDDA" (The Frigid Zone): The frozen, uninhabitable polar caps.

The map itself is a faithful reproduction of a 16th-century map by the famous Flemish cartographer Jodocus Hondius. Illustrated by "MAR DEL ZVR" (South Sea / Pacific Ocean) across the Pacific Ocean with stylized illustrations of vintage European galleons and mythical sea creatures.

5"L × 4"W × 8.5"H
