Antique Swiss Alpine Hand-Carved Edelweiss Wood Box
A beautiful late Victorian to Edwardian example (c. 1890 - 1910) of traditional Swiss Alpine folk art woodworking, crafted in the renowned Brienz woodcarving tradition.
This trinket box is hand-sculpted from a solid hardwood core, featuring a prominent, high-relief center carving of an edelweiss flower—the symbolic star-shaped bloom of the European Alps.
The lid opens on original mortised brass hinges to reveal an interior inset panel lined with its original, aged teal velvet fabric. The front rim retains its period brass locking latch mechanism.
The high-relief edelweiss carving remains structurally intact with sharp, unbroken petals. The original brass hardware is fully stable and functional, and the interior velvet lining remains intact with honorable age fading and no major tearing.
