19th Century French Ormulu lidded box with Black and Green Clover Pattern
A showpiece of 19th-century French decorative art, this original Belle Époque jewelry casket bridges the gap between master metalwork and elite glass enameling. The shaped body is adorned with intricate champlevé enameling with an all-over tapestry of emerald-green cross motifs suspended over a glossy, deep-black enamel background. The framework of substantial gilt bronze ormolu, features delicate hand-chased scrolling acanthus borders and a rear hinge.
Open the casket to reveal its beautifully preserved, pale seafoam-green silk interior lining, designed historically to protect delicate family gemstones from the heavy metal frame. Supported by four sculptural griffin feet to elevate the piece.
